Super Bowl Sunday, and here’s a hockey wrap-up for you. It’s gonna be brief. Boston, in a deep slump, went to Montreal to play their rivals the Canadiens. Two games ago, the Canadiens beat the Bruins in a shoot out. Tonight, no shoot out required as the Bruins would roll to a 3-0 victory.
Adam McQuaid, on defense for the Bruins, got his first NHL goal with about three minutes to go in the first period with his score on goalie Jaroslav Halak to give the visiting team from Beantown the 1-0 lead. With the clock ticking down on the period, Marco Sturm would pick up a rebound from a Zdano Chara shot and score with four seconds left and the Bruins would take a 2-0 lead to end the period.
In the second period, neither team would tally and the Bruins would keep their two goal advantage going into the third.
Marco Sturm would get the puck between the pipes about halfway through the final period to put Boston up 3-0, and that is how it would end. The Bruins would not only end their losing streak, but they would end it with a shut-out of their rival Montreal Canadiens.
Boston improves their record for the first time in a long while, it is now 24-24-9 for the season. Read the recap here. Tuukka Rask also improves his record to 11-7-4.
The Bruins continue on their four-game road trip on Tuesday against the division leading Buffalo Sabres. Game time is 7pm on NESN/NESN HD.
